I am one of the kids grew up in the 80's and developed my love towards static modeling. Tamiya is definitely one of the company that helped me build up this hobby.
This is a name that is definitely a regular in my childhood memories. While not always had the money to purchase, the double star logo, the beautifully painted boxart etc filled up a lot of my childhood time n dreams.
When I heard about Mr Tamiya, Shunsaku Tamiya, pass-away news in July 2025, while i have never had a chance to meet this person, i felt a little void in my heart. This is a man who did produce so much stuff that fills my chilhood memories.
So here's a kit I decided to build, joing SMM's tribute to Tamiya GB.
As many Japanese modeling company, that started as carpenters working on toys for children using wood, i decide to build an old model from tamiya , at least partly, made by wood.
This is the 003 in the series. Lucky ship with 7 happy God, an educational kit with sound activation circuit board.
Instead of using the pre painted paper board, i decided to redraw everything using water color and japan calligraphy brush. First time using wood water colot pencil. i must say really not my favorite.
Overall it is so fun.
Also recorded a short video for the sound activation. Frankly, if i were on the ship that swing like that, i would have been vomitting like crazy n definitely not so happy. Lol
